CAROLINE PLACE | W2

A 1950s house was remodelled to suit the present needs of the occupiers who have lived in the property for over 40 years.  The ground floor was opened up to create a larger lateral space by moving the side wall to include land which was previously a narrow side garden plot.

The new arrangement enlarged the ground floor, created a 1st floor terrace above, and allowed the previously enclosed garden to become the main focus for the living space.  Three glazed screens, one of which slides externally over another, allow light to penetrate into the plan. The link between inside and outside is strong, allowing the otherwise under-used garden space to become part of the living room and kitchen.
